The Adventures and Misadventures of a Neer Do Well Artist Living in Baltimore.

My Photo
Name:Gail Willis
Location:Baltimore, Maryland, United States

I am a visual artist and writer living in Baltimore. I don't have any artist friends. Frankly, artists scare me, there so darn flaky. The above picture is either of me or proof that I'm a pretty decent artist. My goal is to be a self sufficient artist, whereas I wouldn't have to do something else in the day in order to eke out an existence. I also like to attend various cultural events around town. I go to plays, the symphony, etc. Also, I have Asperger's Syndrome. I found this out recently and it has explained a heck of a lot as to why I am as I am.

rascalscooter, originally uploaded by willisgirl.

Even though I am a bit on the pudgy side myself I feel angered and disgusted by this fat guy who gets on the light rail train almost every evening on a Rascal scooter. I feel angry because he does not need it. I have seen him many times get on the special handicapped ramp then park the Rascal scooter and walk over to take a seat. When he walks he does not limp or anything. He looks to be in his late 40’s early 50’s. He wears glasses and has dark hair and a salt and pepper coloured beard. He must be laziest man on Earth!

Why not just walk instead of drive the Rascal around? I don’t know maybe he is not faking it. Its not like I am a doctor or anything.

Anyway, today, another fat guy on a Rascal scooter got on the train. He was elderly and wore thick glasses and had a pencil thin grey mustache. He also wore a Baltimore Orioles Event Staff uniform. When the youngish guy on the Rascal saw the older man he immediately struck up a conversation.

Apparently, the old man had the Rascal because he had back problems. I did not quiet catch why the young man had a Rascal. The one thing I can say at least the old man appeared to really need the Rascal to get around. Throughout the entire ride he never got out of it. The younger man as I have stated above always gets out of his and parks it while he saunters over to a seat.

Today was a tragic day for me. I lost my pedometer of three days. Alas, I knew it would not last long. Over the years I have owned several pedometers and have lost them all. This time I thought that things would be different.

I bought the pedometer so that I could keep track of my walking. I admit I had little faith that the tiny counter would last long. Thus, I did not invest much money into my Sportline 345 Pedometer. I spent about six bucks on it at Walmart. The little bugger measured steps, distance, calories burned, and even told the time. Its only been a couple of hours and I miss it so.

Since I intend on keeping up my walking routine I did a little research on Amazon.com to come up with a better replacement pedometer. The next one I will get will be the Omron HJ-112 Digital Premium Pedometer. The main selling points on it for me is that it does not have to be clipped to a belt. All of the pedometers I have lost over the years were lost when clipped to my belt. I like the fact that the Omron HJ-112 works just as well in you pocket or purse. Hopefully, I have finally found a pedometer that will not become MIA.

Ever since we moved into our new building at work I have found myself walking for exercise during part of my lunch break. I do it mainly to get out of the claustrophobic cafeteria before it becomes filled to capacity. I find myself literally racing to finish my lunch before the place becomes over run with people.

Today, I am happy to write that I encountered another fellow walker. I was surprised to find her walking in front of me along my usual route. Lets face it I really wasn’t surprised about seeing someone else walking. I have seen plenty of people from other companies in the area walking.

The surprise was that I thought I would be the only person silly enough to continue on with a walking routine on a rainy day. Also I might add that I felt happy to see the other walker because she was a plus sized woman like myself.

HOORAY!! I am not the only chubby chick out there walking on my lunch break.

Today, my upstairs neighbors moved out. I did not feel as frightened as I usually do whenever someone moves out or in the building. I think this is because lately I have been doing a lot of yoga. I try to do it every morning and sometimes at night.

The people upstairs started their move around 9:30AM. When they started their move I felt like a prisoner trapped in my own apartment. The reason I felt this way is because almost every time someone moves in or out I have to open my door to facilitate there moving in or out furniture. And I am not the type of person who comfortably leaves my house with the door unopened.

The only reason I finally left out at 2:30PM is because the two children downstairs asked if it was OK to close their doors. Once they got the go ahead to close the doors they told me it was OK to close mine as well. I felt as though I had just received a pardon from the warden. This move has to have been the longest that I can ever recall.

When I came back home from the movies around 7:45PM I did not see the moving van outside so I assumed that they were all moved out. This assumption was all wrong because at 8:26PM they returned! Good Gracious!! How many things did those two own?

I guess I’ll have to wait to see who moves in next. I hope they do not have a lot of big pieces of furniture.

By the way the movie I saw was Mission Impossible III. It was brilliant. I was on the edge of my seat during the entire film Despite being a kook, Tom Cruise, has a good feel for movies. Seymour Hoffman was brilliant as usual.

Yesterday, I finally moved into my companys new building. This means that my company now is spread across two buildings. One word to describe the new building is claustrophobic. The ladies room and cafeteria are way too small.

I do not like that there is only a small section of mirrors in the ladies room. Also there are only two sinks that are too tightly close together. I have a fear that I might physically bump into someone while washing my hands. I suppose I will have to forgo putting on makeup at work in the ladies room. The reason for this is that I feel uncomfortable putting on makeup if there is someone else there.

The cafeteria is also too small. There is not enough room or tables. I feel uncomfortable sharing a table with complete strangers. At the old building I did not have to worry about this because there was plenty of space. The main reason for my discomfort is that I feel uncomfortable eating directly in front of people. In case you are wondering, yes, there is a very short list of people I feel comfortable eating in front of. Alas, I guess I will have to eat lunch earlier than I usually do. Another complaint is that the TV in cafeteria does not seem to work.

On the up note everything in the building appears to be brand new including the furniture. So everywhere in the building there is a scent of new things permeating around.

As far as my cubicule goes I have continued on with my Elvis theme, Elvis Presley, not Costello. I feel that if I put Elvis Costello pictures up people might think that I was a very angst ridden person. Come to think of it....... Oh, well.

As far as Elvis Presley goes, I still can not believe the stupidity of some people who occasionally come up to me upon seeing my cubicle and ask, Do You Like Evis? Geez, I would not have it up if I hated Elvis! So just for the heck of it I tell them that I hate Elvis. Also this year for the time ever I have devoted a wall of my cubicle to Lord of The Rings. Unfortunatley, I do not have any good pictures of Viggio Mortensen or Orlando Bloom up. I suppose this is just as well because if I did it would quickly become the Orlando Bloom/Viggio Mortensen wall and not the Lord of the Rings.

WoW!! I can not believe it!!

I just opened my mail a few seconds ago and it appears that I have been chosen as a candidate for the 2007 (26th) Edition of Marquis Who’s Who of American Women! This is incredible! The last Who’s Who book I made it in was sometime in the early 90’s for Who’s Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges.

I am absolutely floored to have this honor happen again twice in my life time!! I wonder how they got my name? I am not that famous of an artist / writer / blogger / aspie.

The last time they got my name I am sure was because of my GPA in college. On my college transcript is a permanent notation of Meritorious Scholar. I received that because I had a GPA of over three point something. I think it might have been 3.5 This time who knows why I was selected?

Anyway, I have ten days to submit my bio to the folks over at Marquis. I hope that after I send it in that the editors of the book deem it worthy enough to make the 2007 edition of their book.

I know, I know, I am such a geek to want to be included in a Who’s Who Book!!! But you know what? I am a geek.

moa-beltane, originally uploaded by willisgirl.

HAPPY BELTANE!!!

Since today is Beltane also known as May Day I took a prescheduled day off work. On my day off I was surprised to find that today is also a bank holiday over in the UK. I found this out because I have a tendency to listen to a lot of UK Radio online, mainly Virgin Radio and BBC Radio 1

Anyway, here's hoping you had a fab day!
