The Adventures and Misadventures of a Neer Do Well Artist Living in Baltimore. |
||||||
About MeI am a visual artist and writer living in Baltimore. I don't have any artist friends. Frankly, artists scare me, there so darn flaky. The above picture is either of me or proof that I'm a pretty decent artist. My goal is to be a self sufficient artist, whereas I wouldn't have to do something else in the day in order to eke out an existence. I also like to attend various cultural events around town. I go to plays, the symphony, etc. Also, I have Asperger's Syndrome. I found this out recently and it has explained a heck of a lot as to why I am as I am.

Tuesday, July 25, 2006 This morning in my never ending attempt to be on time for work I took a cab over to the next light rail stop at State Center. This cab ride over was note worthy because the driver was a 20something Asian man. He also seemed kind of queer or gay. It is extremely rare that I get an Asian cab driver. Also, I believe he is the only gay Asian cab driver I have ever run across in my 36 years of living in Baltimore. Anyway, this guy was a laugh riot. I have never laughed so hard in a cab before. I also liked the fact that he drove really, really, fast. WALKING LOG STEPS....8431

Friday, July 21, 2006 This evening at work the electricity went out. So thus I could not do all the overtime I had intended to do this evening. This is the first time I can ever recall there being a blackout at work. Since I had nothing else to do I went over to visit Artscape. I had intended to boycott Artscape this year because according to all that I have read they have eliminated Art Cars from there display of exhibits. For as long as I can remember art cars have always had a place at Artscape. So in solidarity with the art car artists I thought it would be best that I stay away this year. Sadly, this was not to be. I just had to see what it would be like without the art cars around. Alas, Artscape felt empty and hollow without them around. Also I could not find my favourite vendor. The elderly couple who sell kettle popcorn. Artscape to me is not Artscape without art cars and kettle popcorn. I promptly caught the next light rail train out of there. Hopefully, the art cars will be back next year, as well as kettle popcorn. WALKING LOG STEPS....12824

Monday, July 17, 2006 I had the day off so I went over to visit my fathers house. As luck would have it Uncle Leon showed up. He asked us, me and my father, if we wanted to visit my brother. I did not mind going over to visit him because it was a nice long ride over to the hospital. However, I would have felt uncomfortable going there alone with Uncle Leon. The reason being that I am not much of a conversationalist and my Uncle is a somewhat jovial and talkative person. Also I got the feeling last week that he felt uncomfortable with my lack of verbosity. In the end my father settled the issue by saying that he was not ready to visit my brother. His reasoning was that he felt that Uncle Leon had the tendacy to come over on whims and just announce that he was ready take us over to see my brother without letting us know beforehand. I got the feeling that my father would have prefered that my Uncle had made arraignments beforehand rather than just barging in and making annoncements that HE was ready to take us to see my brother. All in all I felt a little guilty for not going because my father did not want to go. However, I got the feeling that my father kind of wanted to go but was angry at his brother for just barging in and not telling him a day or two ahead of time that he would take him to visit his son.

Sunday, July 09, 2006 ok Today, after visiting my father I went over to the Towson Commons to see, Superman Returns. The reason why I wanted to see that over something like, Pirates of The Carribean, is because I figure that since the movie is not doing that well I should see it before it leaves the movie theatres. Also I am lover of movies based on comic book characters and I have fond memories of seeing Christopher Reeve's Superman in the movies with my mom. I have to admit right here and now that I had deep reservations about this movie because it starred Brandon Routh in the title role. I also have to admit that I like to watch soap operas. What do these two admissions have in common you ask? Well, I'll tell you. Brandon Routh used to play Seth Anderson on the soap opera, One Life To Live. It was obvious to me as well as other watchers of the show that the only reason he was hired for the role was his looks. The poor boy could not act his way out of a paper bag. Then one day he was let go from the role. The watchers of the show breathed a brief sigh of relief until it became obvious that the guy they hired to replace him was equally horrendous an actor. Besides, being a horrible actor on the soap Routh is known to have thrown one hell of hissy fit when he was let go from the show. On his web site he wrote words to the effect saying that, God would punish those who were resposible for firing him. Ok, enough of that.... As far as the movie goes it was watchable. Thankfully, they did not give Routh much to say in his role, thus his woodeness as an actor was deftly hidden. I also feel that they cast the wrong actress as Lois Lane. The woman playing her had no sparkle or spunk. The actress I felt who would have been a more believable Lois Lane would have been, Parker Posey. If there is ever a sequel they should get rid of the other chick and hire Parker Posey. While I am on the subject of the things I hated about the movie.... Let me add that I also loathed the new costume, especially using a burgandy like red as opposed to the usual bright cherry red. To me it just looked to dark. Nothing about it said, Superman. To me it looked like some costume designer was trying to make his or her mark by screwing with the Man of Steels trademark costume. >As far as the plot of the movie goes it was standard issue comic book stuff. Lex Luther in a diabolical plot to take over the world via real estate. The one aspect of the plot I found intriguing was the idea that Superman/Clark Kent now had a son. However, he could never tell the boy that he was its father. It was so Joss Whedon. I loved it. Yea, I know Joss Whedon had nothing to do with the script. Never the less I loved that tiny aspect of the plot. As far as recommendations go I say wait till it comes out on cable or DVD. Its a watchable movie. There is nothing terribly brilliant or earth shaking about it. Its just a nice little entertainment diversion. WALKING LOG STEPS....10652

Saturday, July 08, 2006 Yesterday, at work after my week of leisure (three days off) I got a memo about a summer contest they are doing. It is something about giving out bonus' based on the amount of overtime you do. I find it intriguing, as I do not have air conditioning and there is plenty of that at work. I wonder if its wrong to do overtime at work simply to beat the heat.. WALKING LOG STEPS....11251

Today, I know it's hard to believe but I had a prescheduled day off. So in all I have been legally off three days this week. I was off on the 4th because its a national holiday and I was off yesterday because the computers were down. On my day off I headed over to my fathers house along with the newly bought tennis shoes for my brother who is hospitalized. As luck would have it my Uncle Leon came over while I was there. Since he came over he asked if we wanted to go see my brother at the hospital. Surprisingly my father agreed. So thus all three of us headed over to the hospital in my Uncles Cadillac. On the way over Uncle Leon asked directions on how to get there several times by various people. This annoyed my father because he had told Uncle Leon several times how to get there. He felt as though Uncle Leon did not trust his directions. In the end it was proved that my father was right in the directions he gave. While at the hospital I gave my brother the tennis shoes I bought him yesterday. Also while at the hospital I got the impression that Uncle Leon was surprised to find that I do not talk much. I think this is due to the fact that growing up he just knew me as his brothers youngest daughter. In a since he does not really know me. He even asked Carlos if I was usually this quiet and my brother jokingly laughed and said that I was quiet as a vegetable. Funny, I never really thought of myself as being like a vegetable... Then again I suppose to some people autistics are kind of like vegetables. WALKING LOG STEPS....4730

Wednesday, July 05, 2006 This morning was an unusual day at work. When I got to work I was told that I had to go home as did everyone else who showed up. Apparently, they were having some kind of a computer problem that not only impacted us but also India. India is where my company out sources some of their work. There was nothing for me to do but turn around like everyone else and head back home. One of the Supervisors was nice enough to drive those of us who have to take the light rail up to the nearest station. I immediately headed over to Walmart to buy my brother the brand of tennis shoes he wanted, Starter tennis shoes. Then afterwards I finally went home and watched Crash.
Crash is not the type of movie I would normally select to see from Netflix. Since it won for best picture I thought the least I could do is watch it. Overall, it was a pretty good movie. The performance I was most surprised by was Ludacris. My goodness Ludacris can act! I am probably alone in this but at times I felt very annoyed by Thandie Newton's character. To me she cried way too much in this movie. So much that I had to fight back the urge to want to physically reach through the screen and bitch slap her around a couple of times. I swear it felt almost as if she was anglinging for an Academy Award nomination with that performance. The best two performances in this movie by far were those of my man, Terrence Howard and Matt Dillon. Ok, I like Terrence Howard in anything. I have yet to see a movie with him in it where he does a horrible acting job. The man can act his ass off. Matt Dillon, however, I am not that familiar with. I think the last movie I can recall seeing Matt Dillon in was, The Flamingo Kid. I know this may be hard to believe since Matt Dillon has been in the movie business for almost all his life. Dillons portrayal in the movie of a racist cop was both scary and believable. I can definelty say that his performance in the movie was worthy of the Ocsar nomination he got. My back up plan in the winter is to do Leslie Sansone walking videos. I recently bought her 1-3 Mile walk DVDs. I plan on popping these in my DVD player when the streets become too treacherous to walk with ice and snow. Today, I gave the 1 Mile walk DVD a try. It was OK. The only gripe I have about it is that you need to buy these weighted balls to do the exercises more fully. Its OK to do it without the weighted balls. But it seems like you would get more of a workout with them. Oh, well I suppose I will have to find a store that sells Leslie Sansone workout balls... WALKING LOG STEPS....11929
