The Adventures and Misadventures of a Neer Do Well Artist Living in Baltimore.

My Photo
Name:
Location: Baltimore, Maryland, United States

I am a visual artist and writer living in Baltimore. I don't have any artist friends. Frankly, artists scare me, there so darn flaky. The above picture is either of me or proof that I'm a pretty decent artist. My goal is to be a self sufficient artist, whereas I wouldn't have to do something else in the day in order to eke out an existence. I also like to attend various cultural events around town. I go to plays, the symphony, etc. Also, I have Asperger's Syndrome. I found this out recently and it has explained a heck of a lot as to why I am as I am.

My goal is to watch as many movies that my nieces gave me this Memorial Day weekend as possible. I started breakfast with Akeelah and the Bee. As you can recall I saw the first half of it during jury duty. Lunch I watched How to Loose a Guy in 10 Days. I picked up this movie on the recommendation of my nephew. The movie was pretty darn good. Dinner time I watched Casino Royale. I thought it was a pretty good reboot of the James Bond franchise. However I hated that Bond got soft and proclaimed his love for the accountant as soon as that happened I knew she would either betray him or was toast(bound to die a tragic death).

Today, I visited my brother in the hospital. It took me a while to find his room because they moved him to another section of the hospital. He was up when I visited him and that was good. He was unconscious when my sister and her children visited him yesterday in the intensive care unit. I did not want to visit him yesterday because I knew he would be out of it. I pray that my brother has a full recovery. Afterall, he is the only brother I have.

SATURDAY MOVIE: BORAT
This Saturday I watched a DVD of Borat: Cultural Learnings to Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazikstan. It was the most hilarious movie I have seen in years. I laughed non-stop. Sasha Baron Cohen is a genius!

By the way he is a cousin of Simon Baron Cohen who does autism research. I do not agree with his cousin’s theory that autism is a caused by an extreme male brain. Afterall, I am female, autistic, and do not feel that my brain is the slightest bit male. However, I do agree with his earlier theory on mindblindness and its relation to autism.

MORNING COMMUTE:
This morning I am on time for work. At first it looked like I might be late because as I was walking up to the bus stop a bus was pulling off. Luckily 10-11 minutes later another bus showed up. It was the dreaded #20 bus. However, the bus was driven by a substitute driver. It took the young guy that was driving the bus just two minutes to reach my stop. WoW! A new MTA record. It takes the regular driver 4-5 minutes to reach. Other substitute drivers 3-4 minutes.

CONCERN OF THE DAY:
Today my brother has his bypass surgery. I am as you can imagine I deeply worried by this and hope that he pulls through A-OK. I only wish that I could be at the hospital with him.

WHAT I AM WEARING:
Today, I have on blue jeans, Nike MaxAir shoes, a turqouise v-neck gauze top with tan wooden beading around the neckline. I am carrying a red hoodie with me in case I get chilly.

MORNING COMMUTE:
This morning I am on time for work. At first it looked like I might be late. The reason being is that at the stop prior to mine the driver had to pick up a wheelchair bound man wearing a bright orange t-shirt. It always takes a while for wheelchair bound people to be loaded into and from buses.

ART SOLD & I STARTED READING A BOOK
Yesterday, I received a check from the Veterans for Peace art show. I had no idea that two of my paintings sold. I felt it would seem desperate and crass to call them up to ask if they sold. Afterall this was the first art show that they have ever gave for their cause. Anyway, its nice to know I did something right. As you can recall my painting for Maryland Art Place’s Out of Order show did not sell. Personally, I thik that the main reason was that I had priced it too high. The two paintings at The Veterans For Peace Art Show were much more reasonably priced as a result of this they sold. Whenever, something sells I feel like jumping up and down and saying out loud, “Its not all in my head!! I really am an artist!!” My goodness I really am an artist!

Also yesterday, several years ahead of schedule I started reading Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.

I am reading the book even though I know that Proffessor Snape is the aforementioned half blood Prince. I also know that Snape kills Dumbledore. Its a widely held debate among Potter fans if it was accidental premeditated or perhaps that Dumblebore asked him to do it. Even though I know all this Snape is still my favourite character in Harry Potter. I think this is because I like characters that are duplicious in nature. Snape is on the side of good but he is a bit of a jerk and a mean teacher. I like that his character is more grey than 100% good or evil. Another character I liked that was like this was Mara Jade from the Star Wars books. Her character could play from both sides like Snape but always in the end sided with the forces of good.

WHAT I AM WEARING:
Today, I have on a short sleeve pink top, blue jeans, a red hoodie, and Nike MaxAir shoes.

MORNING COMMUTE:
This morning I am on time for work. I even had enough time to walk down to the Convention Center stop.

HEROES SEASON FINALE:
Last night’s season finale to Heroes was OK. It was not as great as I had hoped it would be. I did like that they ended it with the start of Book 2.

CONCERN OF THE DAY:
I am deeply worried that two of my co-workers are missing. I noticed that there desks were completely devoid of all their personal effects. I can not help but wonder did they jump (decide to leave on their own) or were they pushed (fired). To be honest one recently seemed to be rarely at work . The other one I can not figure out...

Is this the start of a spate of layoffs begun?

WHAT I AM WEARING:
Today, I have on stone washed jeans, a black t-shirt, red hoodie, and New Balance 653 shoes.

MORNING COMMUTE:
This morning I thought I would be late for work because at the previous stop the driver had to pick up a wheelchair bound man. I ended up making it down to the light rail station just in time to catch the train at 6:13.

PAINTING NEWS
I would like to try using heavy bodied acrylic paints. The reason is that recently I have fallen in love with oil paints. You can get good effects with oil paints. However, the main drawback of oil paints is that they take forever to dry.

Hopefully, with heavy bodied acrylic paint they will be just as thick as oil paints only with a faster drying time.

WHAT IM WEARING:
Today, I have on blue jeans, Nike MaxAir shoes, a red hoodie, and a dark blue top that has a design of white flower on it.

MORNING COMMUTE:
This morning I am on time for work primarily because I took a cab down to the light rail station. I am very sleepy this morning because I spent a lot of time last night updating my MySpace page. Speaking of which it seems that my family is starting to primarily communicate with each other via MySpace. OK, not the entire family just the younger portion.

BOOK NEWS!
Yesterday, I finally finished reading Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix! I'm all set to watch the movie in July.

Next I'll read Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince. I suppose I probaly won't start that one until a couple of months before the movie comes out. As far as the Half Blood Prince goes the plot will be no surprise to me. I already know that Professor Snape is the half blood Prince and that in the book he may or may not have killed Dumbledore.

Maybe in a couple of weeks I will order Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows off of Amazon.com or just wait for it to come out in paperback. Decisions...Decisions...

WHAT I AM WEARING:
Today I have on blue jeans, New Balance 653 shoes and the infamous turquoise pineapple t-shirt encrusted with sparkling rhinestones.

MORNING COMMUTE:
The #20 bus arrived at 6:03. It was ‘gasp’ one minute early from its scheduled arrival time. Im OK with this because when a bus is early by a couple of minutes I do not have to hustle to catch my train. Anyway despite the bus being 1 minute early it did not arrive at my point of departure until 6:08. This makes me wonder how come with other bus drivers it takes them just 3 minutes to reach my destination but with the #20 driver it takes her a whole 5 minutes? I think I have finally figured out the answer to her chronic lateness during the fall/winter. The #20 driver simply drives to slow. She drives at a cautious crawl while other drivers drive at a more reasonable pace.

NEW FAVOURITE SONG OF THE WEEK
My favourite song this week is the Avril Lavigne's Girlfriend. True, it is practically a remake of the 80’s song Mickey by Toni Basil but I like it just the same.

Just for fun in this post I've included the videos to the Avril Lavigne version and 80's Toni Basil's version. That way you can decide on your own if they are basically the same cheerleader song.

This is a painting I did called Running Girl. It is 8x10, acrylic on canvas. I will be the first to adit that I am a horrrible photographer.

This afternoon I dropped off my art work at Church for the Baltimore Veterans For Peace Chapter #105 art show. The art show is to honor Baltimore Phil Berrigan Memorial Chapter co-founder Peter D. Molan who recently passed away . I hope that the two paintings I contributed manage to sell. Above are the two paintings I contributed. If they sell I can say I did my part in financially contributing to the spread of peace.

Also today I visited my Dad. He seems to be doing well. I think I may be visiting him again next week. It appears that Doctor Who will be off the air for about two weeks because they are running a European song contest called Eurovision. So I have two weeks before they run the next episode entitled 42. Last weeks previews for the upcoming Doctor Who episodes looked fantastic! Can not wait to find out if political candidate, Mr. Saxon is The Master regenerated. Below is the trailer for part two of Series three of Doctor Who. The guy in the oxygen mask is presumed to be Mr. Saxon.

I caught the #20 bus at 5:04. Its scheduled arrival time is 5:02. So thus it was 2 minutes late. Also the bus took 4 minutes to get to my stop. On average the other buses I have taken this week take 2-3 minutes to arrive at my stop.

WHAT I AM WEARING:
Today, I have on a short sleeve turquoise gauze top that has beading around the neckline, blue jeans, and Nike MaxAir shoes. MORNING COMMUTE:
This morning it was very chilly outside. Despite the chill the #10 bus came on time. So it looks like I will be on time for work this morning.

An interesting thing happened on my light rail trip. There was yet another ticket check at the Mount Washington stop. The ticket check was done yet again by Baltimore city cops. This is unusual because the ticket checkers tend to be female and they seem to only check for tickets in the afternoon. Another thing that was unusual about this was that I was the ticket check did not occur on the late train. As per usual the cop asked to see my ticket but did not wait around to look at it. I wonder if the cops who are at the Mount Washington stop some mornings are there because of disciplinary actions. I can not imagine any self respecting cop actually wanting to do light rail ticket checks in the wee hours of the morning.

FAVOURITE SONG OF THE WEEK
My new favourite song of the week is a shocker. Its by a “gasp” American singer! I know that’s pretty shocking especially coming from me. 90% of the time. OK, ...99% of the time I tend to like to listen to Brit pop but this time I have to give the nod to American singer Ciara and her song, Like a Boy. I think the song has a serious chance of crossing over to the pop charts making Top 10 or Top 5. I think the reason I have taken so much to the song is because it sounds a little like classical music with a hip hop beat. Without further adieau.....

This morning I went to Church. It was our annual Union Sunday service. The service commemorates the anniversary of William Ellery Channing’s 1819 speech at our Church entitled Unitarian Christianity“. His speech was the foundation for the modern Unitarian movement.

This is the second Union Sunday I have attended. It is usually crowded. This Sunday was no exception. Instead of sitting in the pews I had to sit in these metal folding chairs that were roped off and reserved for a middle school cluster. Why middle schoolers were segregated off from the rest of the Church population I have no idea.

I also thought it would be nice to attend Union Sunday because it would be the one time during the year when the choir is guaranteed not to sound elderly and creaky. The reason being is that for Union Sunday there is a combined choir with other Unitarian churches.

My favourite part in the service was towards the end when the combined choir sang. The woman who soloed was spectacular. She sounded like a gospel singer. I had no idea she could seriously sing. The reason for my amazement is that she is a member of our regular church choir. Which makes me wonder, how come they sound aweful when there are some people in the choir who can actually sing?

Happy Cinco De Mayo!

Yesterday, I bought my niece a digital camera, camera case, and memory card from Best Buy. I did it because I wanted to do something nice.

I have to admit that I felt apprehensive about going to an electronics store. It seems that every-time I go into one I am ignored by the sales staff. Im not sure if its because Im female or that I look like Im not serious about buying anything. All I know is that the sales people seem to rush to help male customers faster than me.

Yesterday, this was not the case. As I walked into the door I got immediate attention from a sales person albeit a female sales person. All I can say is that at last I finally did not feel ignored by the sales staff in an electronics store!

MORNING COMMUTE:
Sadly, this morning I am late for work.

WORK NEWS:
Lately it seems as though at work we have been running out of work before the day ends. This has me worried that there might soon be a slate of layoffs in my department.

Also yesterday the custodial staff closed down *ALL* the restrooms in the building around the end of my shift. This did not bode well for me because Im the type of person who likes to use the ladies room before I leave out of anywhere. I had to wait 30 minutes after my shift ended for the custodial staff to reopen the restrooms. In the future hopefully they will have the foresight to leave at least one restroom open. Yesterday, was like torture for me.

NEW RADIO!!
Yesterday evening I went out and bought a new radio. I feel complete again! I bought the same model of radio that I previously had. I love that particular model because you can get AM/FM, TV, and Weather forecasts.

I also went over to Greetings and Readings to pick up a book called, The Secret by Rhonda Byrne. I have no idea if the concepts in the book are valid. I just bought the book out of curiosity.
