The Adventures and Misadventures of a Neer Do Well Artist Living in Baltimore.

My Photo
Name:
Location: Baltimore, Maryland, United States

I am a visual artist and writer living in Baltimore. I don't have any artist friends. Frankly, artists scare me, there so darn flaky. The above picture is either of me or proof that I'm a pretty decent artist. My goal is to be a self sufficient artist, whereas I wouldn't have to do something else in the day in order to eke out an existence. I also like to attend various cultural events around town. I go to plays, the symphony, etc. Also, I have Asperger's Syndrome. I found this out recently and it has explained a heck of a lot as to why I am as I am.

I WAS ROBBED!

This morning I got the shock of my life when I checked my checking account online. All my money was nearly gone after just getting paid yesterday!

My checking account was raided via fraudulent companies on PayPal. They broke into my account and began making fraudulent withdrawals from my checking account. They did this without mercy on June 26th to June 27th. The only reason it appears they stopped on the 27th was because I had insufficient funds.

I did the only thing I could think to do I called up my bank and closed out my checking account so now no money can be taken out. I have to go to my bank on Monday to fill out forms about what happened. Hopefully, I will get my money back.

You know I have been with PayPal ever since they started. I trusted PayPal! I can tell you one thing now I will never again give another internet payment company my checking account number! I see now that with that type of information it leaves you vulnerable to anyone just hacking into their system and robbing you blind and you won’t know anything is wrong until its too late.

I am still in shock. I never thought anything like this could ever happen to me. Im not rich. I live in the hood! I still can not believe I just got paid yesterday and now I have absolutely nothing!

MORNING COMMUTE:
I caught a cab this morning even though a bus was right behind it. I did this because I was afraid of being late. The cab reached my stop before the bus. So I feel justified in my decision. When the cab reached the station there was a train down the street waiting to pull off towards Hunt Valley.

MISSED ANOTHER OFFICE PARTY
Yesterday was a going away party for two co-workers who are still with the company but moving to a different department. No one told me it was today, nor alerted me as to the time it began. Everyone who was there was from my department. I know because I could not help but notice that the office began to slowly empty out. This makes the second time in a row that no one told me about a department get together. The last time was a baby shower. I did not feel right about heading over to the break room because no one told me about it thus I can only assume that no one wanted me there.

I wonder if this means I am the most disliked person at in the office... Anyway, I should not take it too hard. There was probably cake there or something else sweet I can’t eat cake because of my diabetes.

MORNING COMMUTE:
Looks like Im going to be on time. I caught the #10 bus and bought a Coffee Coolata at Dunkin Donuts.

LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD
It was extremely hot yesterday. I went to the movies to cool off. Prior to going to the movies I got in a little walking at Towson Town Center. I also bought a foundation at the MAC Cosmetics Store. I plan on going back on Friday to buy powder to match the foundation. I really loved the personal service I got there.

The movie I saw in case you had not figured out was Live Free or Die Hard. The movie was fantastic. It was everything I expected it to be. There were plenty of car chases and explosions. I whole heartedly recommend it.

WHAT I AM WEARING:
Today , I have on stone washed jeans, New Balance 653 shoes, and a beige blouse with a pattern of white flowers on it.

MORNING COMMUTE:
I thought I was going to be late this morning. The #20 bus showed up at 6:05. It was more crowded than usual. I got the de ja vu feeling that I was going to be late.

The driver made it to my stop at 6:08. Fantastic! Three minutes! This was a new driver, a new day, a new experience! I had no need to worry that he would have the same habits as the old driver like taking on average five minutes to reach my stop. I could never understand that. There is next to no traffic at six in the morning. Also the new driver drives with purpose not as though he is sight seeing. The old driver drove like an old lady. Come to think of it...she was an old lady.

However, as I got off the bus I saw a train pull off at the exact same time 6:08. Oh, No! Is the train starting the scary pattern of leaving several minutes early. Luckily, when I got to the train station I realized that the train that pulled off was headed towards Timonium. I did not miss my train! The Hunt Valley train soon arrived at 6:11. It looks like I am going to be on time. I hope that the new driver continues doing a good job of arriving close to the scheduled time and taking three minutes to reach my stop. I also hope that the light rail train continues to arrive at its usual time and not several minutes early.

WHAT I AM WEARING:
Today, I have on blue jean, Nike MaxAir shoes, a short sleeve sweatshirt that has emblazoned in the middle a small American flag with the word “America” written above it.

MORNING COMMUTE:
I am surprised that I managed to be on time this morning. It was so hot last night that I barely got to sleep. I managed to wake up early enough to squeeze in a Yoga Zone DVD. The new #20 bus driver arrived at 6:04. He made it down to my stop at 6:07. I think Im going to like this guy. The old driver would have it made it down there at 6:09 because she liked to drive extra slow as though neither she nor her passengers had anywhere special to go. The train arrived at 6:10 it pulled off at 6:11 and stalled at the Lexington Avenue stop until 6:14.

WHAT I AM WEARING:
Today, I have on blue jeans, New Balance 653 shoes, a blue and white horizontally striped t-shirt with red trim around the collar and sleeves.

MORNING COMMUTE:
This Monday morning I am late for work. I do not know how this happened because I woke up an hour and a half early because I went to bed early. I even had time enough to do yoga. Oh, well...

The light rail train when it finally arrived was short one car. This had me worried that we might have to switch cars at the North Avenue stop. Luckily, we did not have to switch cars.

WHAT I AM WEARING:

Today I have on short sleeve sweatshirt grey henley, blue jeans, and Nike MaxAir Shoes

1408 & DOCTOR WHO
Didnt’ have much to do today but read up on people’s opinion of 1408. I am still wondering what everyone else interpreted the ending as meaning. Did or did not Mike Enslin (John Cusack) escape the room? Also what was with the meniacle grin he gave at the end. Was it really Mike or evil Mike? The movie was as good as a PG-13 horror movie can be. By the way I am not the type who likes movies like Saw or Hostel. I liked that there was very little gore in the movie. Lots of scares but no gore. I would definetly recommend the movie. The movie cost 25 million to make I have a feeling it will make a profit.

Also this evening I watched Doctor Who on MPTV it was one of my all time favourite episodes of the new series, The Empty Child. I got to see one of my favourite Captain Jacks, This time its Captain Jack Harkness portrayed by John Barrowman. Favourite scenes is the creepy as kid with the gas mask lurking around asking, “Are you my Mommy?” Also Captain Jack and Rose dancing on top of Jack’s ship with Big Ben in the background. Ahhh! That was so romantic. My other favourite Captain Jack is Captain Jack Sparrow from The Pirates of the Carribean movies played by one of my favourite actors of all time, Johnny Depp. Next week odds are they will be showing my other favourite episode of the new series, the Doctor Dances. They have to show it because its the second half of a two parter.

MORNING COMMUTE:
Today, I was running a little late so I caught a cab over to the light rail station. The driver was African he asked me as he was driving if I was Nigerian. He said I looked Nigerian. He asked me if my father was Nigerian. I soon found out he was Nigerian. Now this makes me wonder if I am descended from Nigeria. It also makes me wonder if Africans from different regions of the continent have distinct facial charcateristics. Who knows maybe I am of Nigerian descent and do not really know it....

LENO OR LETTERMAN
I do not normally watch late night talk shows but I made an acception tonight. The Late Show with David Letterman had Johnny Depp and The Tonite Show with Jay Leno had John Cusack as a guest.

It was my two favourite actors and long time 20+ year celebrity crushes on at the same exact time!

Who would I choose what would I do? My head was in danger of exploding. In the end I watched Cusack on Leno because the show with Depp was a repeat from whenPirates of The Carribean: Dead Man’s Chest came out.

The interview with Cusack was very de ja vu. He talked about baseball because he’s from Chicago and Chicago has two baseball teams. He previously talked about the Cubs versus the White Sox on his last appearance on Letterman and here he was doing it again on Leno. I should have just went to bed and watched the whole thing on YouTube the next day.

Today, I have on blue jeans, New Balance 653 shoes, and a yellow top with various blue flowers on it.

MORNING COMMUTE:
This morning it was drizzling when I left out to catch the bus. The #20 bus came at 6:03. The new driver is just 1 minute off the scheduled time. This is very good. The train however was late it arrived at 6:15 instead of the usual 6:10 to 6:12 time. I hope despite the train being late I will be on time for work.

KNOCKED UP
Yesterday, because of the heat after work, I went to see yet another movie. This time I saw a comedy. The name of the comedy I saw was Knocked Up. The movie was pretty funny. It was not as funny as my new gold standard in movie comedy, Borat. But I seriously doubt that I will ever run across another comedy like Borat. So Im not really sure if its fair to judge other movie comedies against Borat.

So I’ll just say the movie was pretty decent. You’ll laugh and stuff. You’ll laugh more often than you would if you were watching a Paulie Shore movie. By the way Paulie Shore is my gold standard in un-funny movies.

Overall, I would strongly recommend that you run out and see Knocked Up. You won’t regret it.

WHAT I AM WEARING:
Today, I have on chocolate brown slacks, a patterned shirt of ecru, olive green, and tan. The shoes on my feet are Nike MaxAir. I almost had on sandals but changed my mind at the last minute. This was good because...well it’s drizzling outside.

MORNING COMMUTE:
Im late for work this morning. I almost checked into the hospital but thought better of it. I was honestly thinking of hospitalizing myself because of stress. I called up my bank as soon as I woke to see if my rent payment had been received and it had not. I felt like crying feeling helpless as thought I was part of some kind of unseen conspiracy. I could not take it anymore. My father has a terminal illness, my brother is having complications from bypass surgery, and I recently found out my nephew is a teen father. The only thing that would make me feel less stressed is knowing that my landlord got my rent payment. At least that one thing would have gone as planned.

I walked slowly towards the hospital then decided that if I did not see a bus I would go in and see if they would take me. Maybe all I need is prescription anti-depressants.

Today, of all days the bus came down the street just like that.. (snaps finger). Since the bus came I decided not to check myself into the hospital today. When I got down to the light rail station I picked up my cell phone and called the bank again. This time a deduction was made in the amount of my rent. Oh my, goodness the new rent check was cashed!! Yippee! I feel just a little less stressed with that news. I even spent the morning smiling at the male ticket checker. He probably thought I was either crazy or I liked him. I could not help it was just so darn happy that finally something had gone right.

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: AT WORLD’S END
Overall, it was an OK movie. I have no idea what happended in the movie. I would not recommend you run out to see it. I say its best to wait until it comes out on cable. The only reason I saw it was because it was very hot and I needed somewhere cool to go. Johnny Depp gave a stellar performance as everyone’s favourite pirate captain, Captain Jack Sparrow. Keith Richards did a great job playing Captain Sparrows father.

Also while watching the movie I found myself strangely enjoying the villian of the movie, Cutler Becket and his obvious Napoleon complex. I have to say Tom Hollander gave an excellent performance. I can not believe that I never noticed him much in the other Pirates movies. Then again I don’t know what it says about this movie when you find yourself rooting for the bad guy.

WHAT I AM WEARING:
Today, I have on a blue and white vertical stripped button up blouse, black slacks, and black Muppet shoes or black canvas tennis shoes. I have on these shoes because the sandals yesterday really slowed down my walking pace.

MORNING COMMUTE:

What can I say...... it’s Monday so I must be late for work...

I really have to work on being on time for work on Monday mornings. Also I could not get a Coffee Coolata at Duncan Donuts because they were out of it.

WHAT I AM WEARING:
Today, I have on chocolate brown slacks ,a vertical striped red and white short sleeve button up blouse, and tan and brown sandals. For the first time this summer I decided not to carry a light jacket around with me on a weekday. Over the next few days its supposed to get into the 90s. I felt it prudent not to carry anything extra.

MORNING COMMUTE:
This morning it is chilly outside with dark overcast clouds. Despite the gloomy morning weather, it looks like Im going to be on time for work. I luckily caught the #10 bus. In doing this I had enough time to buy breakfast from 7eleven. The train showed up at 6:11 then stalled at Saratoga Street. After that it was smooth saling ahead.

CONCERN OF THE DAY:
I am still deeply worried about my brother and my fathers cardiac conditions. As you can recall my brother had quadrouple bypass surgery and is now back in the hospital due to complications.

My father has heart failure and is now having trouble breathing. I recently found out that my niece, Alexis called an ambulance for him but he refused treatment. What is a person to do?

You want someone to get better but you know that in essence a diagnosis of heart failure is terminal. There is no cure for it. No one actually gets 100% better from it. I only wish that he would not hasten his condition by refusing treatment. I want him to be as comfortable as possible. It is painful watching someone you love in so much pain refusing treatment.

My other niece, Aleasea, who is a nurse said that she felt he needed an oxygen tank to make his breathing easier. She told me that she will be contacting a doctor she knows to see if he will make a house call to see him. I do not know of any doctors in this day and age who make house calls. If the doctor agrees all I can say is, Bless Him.

WHAT I AM WEARING:
Today I have on a blue and white horizontal striped t-shirt that has red around the neck. I also have on blue jeans, New Balance 653 shoes, and a turqouise hoodie that I actually have on.

MORNING COMMUTE:
At first there was a slight possibility that I might be late. You see today is trash day in my neighborhood. As walked out the door this morning to set out my trash I noticed that there were no trash bags from the neighbors on my block. However, there were bags out from neighbors up the street. So I walked up the street and put my bags there. This of course took some time to do because I also had a bus to catch. All in all everything worked out just fine. I caught the bus in the nick of time and got on the light rail. It looks like Im going to be on time for work.

CONCERNS OF THE DAY:
It turns out that my landlord never got the rent check. I know this because I became I became so worried that I called him up and asked him if he got the check.

This all makes me I wonder if someone is stealing rent checks out of the rent drop? Or maybe as I was rushing to leave for my trip to Norfolk, Virginia I put something other than my rent into the rent drop. All I know right now is that so far the previous check has not been cashed. So I should consider that to be a good sign that the check was not stolen.

In the end I did the next best thing I could think of I wrote another check and put it in the rent drop. Hopefully it does not become ‘lost’. Soon after I did this I got a desperate phone call from one of my nieces.

Recently, she started a new job and needed cash to get to and from work today. The problem now is whether or not my landlord picks up the check today and cashes it. If he cashed it today it will bounce like a rubber ball. However, if he cashes it tomorrow, there should be absolutely no problems what so ever. I have never been in this type of situation before.

FILM CREW IN MY HOOD
It appears that they are filming an episode of The Wire in my neighborhood. I have never seen The Wire before because I do not have cable tv. I first noticed things were a little odd when I walked by the rehab center this morning. Instead of its usual sign it had a sign that read, The Baltimore Shelter instead. I thought that was a bit odd. Also it was unusually crowded. I had no idea that my neighborhood had a large army of homeless people in it. Oh, well...

Then when my niece came over I saw that there were cranes and trucks from Haddad’s. Then I knew for sure that they were filming something in there, most likely, The Wire.

WHAT I AM WEARING:
This morning it is a little damp and chilly outside. I am finally wearing the turqouise hoodie I carry around with me. In addition to this I have on blue jeans, Nike MaxAir shoes, and a yellow shirt with blue and white flowers on it.

MORNING COMMUTE:
This morning I am on time for work. I caught the #10 bus and then got an the light rail. After I got off the bus and headed for the 7eleven to buy a Coffee Coolata. While waiting for my drink to be made I thought I would be late. It took the people in the store the longest time to make a Coffee Coolata. The other day I was in and out like nothing. I think the reason why it took long was that the woman who makes the coffee and sandwiches did not know how to make my new drink of choice. The counter guy had to stop what he was doing to make my drink. I would say my total wait was well over five minutes. When I got out the store the train was on its way towards my stop.

CONCERN OF THE DAY
I am still worried about my brother and fathers health, and the rent payment that has yet after two weeks to be deducted from my bank account.

However, there is a bright spot. My brother is to be released from the hospital on Thursday. I hope that this is the last of complications to arise from his recent bypass surgery.

I remember my late Uncle Stanley after he had his bypass surgery a decade ago had complication after complication and then he died. Then again there’s my Uncle Leon who had the surgery also ten years ago and ever since then it has been smooth sailing all the way for him.

WHAT I AM WEARING:
Today, I have on a grey short sleeve sweatshirt that says America and has a picture of an American flag in the center. I also have on blue jeans and Nike MaxAir shoes. Hanging on my arm I have a turqouise hoodie in case it gets chilly.

MORNING COMMUTE:This morning through a series of weird coincidences I am on time for work. I took a cab down to the Cultural Center light rail stop. Then as I got out the cab and walked over to the stop, Co-worker Yolanda, spotted me and offered to drive me in over work. That was very nice of her. Not many people would have stopped and offered me a ride.

WORRY OF THE DAY:
Today, in addition to my brother and fathers health I am worried about my rent payment. I paid my rent on June 2nd and have noticed that as yet no deduction has been made from the bank. After I have sent in a rent payment a deduction is usually made from my on the following Tuesday. So far two Tuesdays have passed and no deduction has been made. Maybe I should not worry. It is possible that my landlord went on vacation or something...

WHAT I AM WEARING:
Today I have on black slacks, a beige crocheted top, and black slides. I also have a turqouise hoodie in case it gets too cold at work.

MORNING COMMUTE:
I did not feel like going in to work this morning. My brother is having complications from his bypass and is back in the nospital and my fathers breathing from his heart failure has become dangerously labored.

I feel so helpless and worried. I feel I should be with them trying to help but one is in the hospital and the other is in his home. I wish I could clone myself so I can be at three places at once, at work, with my father, and with my brother. I hope and pray that they all pull through.....

As you can imagine I am late this morning. I noticed that a bus actually arrived at 6:14...the time that the bus after 6:02 #20 bus is supposed to arrive. The train pulled off at 6:26.

I bought for the first time ever a coffee coolata. I always buy Starbucks bottled coffees because I like the kick of coffee but have never been keen on hot beverages. Im the one person at work who drinks coffee poured over ice cubes.

WHAT I AM WEARING:
Today, I have on black slacks, a grey short sleeved henley, Nike MaxAir shoes, and a turqouise hoodie.

Sunday, June 10, 2007

All this weekend I was feeling pretty miserable. My brother is back in the hospital because of complictions from his bypass surgery. I thought he would be ok because of his age, 40something Now I am feeling pretty scared. I would hate to loose my brother. Also my father who has heart failure has been having trouble breathing lately. This also has me very worried.

I tried to watch Doctor Who this morning but it was not downloaded all the way. I had to wait about two hours before the person who uploads the episodes got the episodes completely processed through YouTube. I have to say, watching Doctor Who in between my worrying was a nice little diversion..

DOCTOR WHO...BLINK
This was what has been become known as a Doctor Who lite episode. An episode of Doctor Who that has no relation to the main story arc of the season. I happen to like the Doctor Who lite episodes because they have to be inventive without using too much CGI. These in edition to having little to do with the main story arc also feature less of Doctor Who (David Tennant) and his companion Martha (Freema Agyeman). They almost become like background characters. I think they have these episodes so that Tennant and Freema can have a little break in between shooting.

The episode overall was pretty creepy with all the seemingly sweet weeping angel statues around.

The episode featured a character named Sally Sparrow who likes to photograph old abandoned houses. One day she comes upon a house with a graffiti message scrawled on the wall underneath wall paper meant for her. The message on the wall says to beware of the weeping angels. And from there on you are warned DON'T BLINK!

Yesterday because of the one day heat wave I spent my hours after work the Towson Barnes and Nobles and at the Towson Commons.

While at the Barnes and Nobles I could not help but notice that they removed all the comfy chairs that used to be in the store. So instead I sat on a foot stool as I perused art books. I suppose the reason they took out the chairs was because of people like me. People who go into air conditioned stores in the summer to get away from the heat. It was either that or maybe there was an incident involving Towson University students that made the removal of chairs neccesary.

Anyway, I only was in there to avoid the heat and to bide my time before Oceans 13 started at the Towson Commons movie theatre.

OCEANS 13
I saw the movie despite never seeing the first two. I was not sure if this was a good idea or not. In the end I decided it could not be too bad. Afterall, it has George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Andy Garcia, and Matt Damon in it. How could you go wrong? This is the handsomeness most good looking male cast in Hollywood history!

PARIS HILTON LEAVES JAIL
I am deeply troubled by the news that Paris Hilton left jail early due to a “medical condition”. This proves once again that there is no such thing as justice in our country. There are two different judicial systems one for the common people the other for the rich. One thing I can say I have nothing but respect for Martha Stewart. She never punked out. She did her time.

MORNING COMMUTE:
It looks like I will be on time for work this morning. Anticipating the possible new early departure time of the light rail train I left out much earlier than usual. I had enough time to walk down to the Convention Center station. When the train arrived at 6:07 it stalled a while before it went into the station. The train pulled off from the station I usually catch it at 6:13, the usual time it leaves. As I have written before the train was leaving out extremely early last week and the beginning of this week. Its difficult for me to catch a train leaving at 6:08 when I am conditioned to that train arriving at 6:12-6:13.

CONCERN OF THE DAY:
Today, I feel worried because my brother has been released from the hospital and I do not have his new phone number or address. Will I ever be able to see how he is making out since his quadruaple bypass surgery? If he needs help how can I provide it?

You see just before my brother went into the hospital he moved to a new place. When I was visiting him in hospital the last thing on my mind was to ask where he lived or his new phone number. The poor guy seemed to be in so much pain. The last thing I wanted to do was aggravate him. He would easily fall off to sleep during my visits or he was already asleep. Everything he did seemed laboured. I guess I will have to ask my sister if she has his new contact info....

WHAT I AM WEARING:
Today, I have on a tan short sleeve blouse with a design of white flowers, blue jeans, Nike MaxAir shoes, and a turquoise hoodie.

MORNING COMMUTE:
Sadly, this morning despite leaving out early to catch the bus yet again I am late. I ended up on the dreaded #20 bus.

This morning just before I got off my stop the driver made an announcement that she will no longer be driving our bus in the morning. She will be the driver of the #37 White Marsh bus. She also said that the MTA summer schedule kicks into effect this Sunday! Yay! Hopefully, our new driver will actually follow the posted MTA schedule.

The people who have to take the #37 bus are now royaly screwed. Some days there bus will be on time but more often than not it will be late.

Also this morning a ticket checker got on at the University Center stop. This is highly unusually. He is the ticket checker that I primarily see working on the weekends. He is a tall mustached medium toned man. Don’t know why but he kind of reminds me of a bulldog.

Despite being late for the train I noticed that the train left at 6:11 instead of its ultra early time of 6:08. For the record the train usually leaves between 6:11 and 6:12. So hopefully this means that the regular driver is back on the job this week. I do not know what time the train will be pulling off next week when the summer schedule starts off. Also this morning I walked down to the Camden Yards station.

BLOG NEWS
Today, marks the return of my formating this blog on my Alphasmart while driving towards work in the morning. Since August 2006 this blog was transcribed from a small turquoise notebook that I bought at a bookstore. I have used up all the pages of the note book so its time to switch back to the Alphasmart.

WHAT I AM WEARING:
Today, I have on an ecru coloured floral short sleeve blouse, green slacks, New Balance 653 shoes and a turquoise hoodie.

MORNING COMMUTE:
The weather outside this morning reminded me of the weather conditions in Virginia this weekend. In other words it was overcast and cloudy.

I left out on time. While waiting on the bus stop a woman who was also waiting for a bus asked a bus driver who is sometimes on the stop what time the next bus comes. The bus driver replied 6:10. Amazingly she was correct. This makes me wonder if MTA drivers have there own internal schedules that are different from the posted on their website.

I had to wait for 16 minutes before a bus showed up. The bus that showed up was the dreaded #20.

WHAT I AM WEARING:
Today, I have on blue jeans, Nike MaxAir shoes, a blue and white vertical striped short sleeve button up blouse. In case it gets too chilly, on my arm I have a turqouise hoodie.

WALKING LOG
Unfortunately, I forgot to record results off of my Omron HJ-112 pedometer. Better luck tomorrow!
