The Adventures and Misadventures of a Neer Do Well Artist Living in Baltimore. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||
About Me
I am a visual artist and writer living in Baltimore. I don't have any artist friends. Frankly, artists scare me, there so darn flaky. The above picture is either of me or proof that I'm a pretty decent artist. My goal is to be a self sufficient artist, whereas I wouldn't have to do something else in the day in order to eke out an existence. I also like to attend various cultural events around town. I go to plays, the symphony, etc. Also, I have Asperger's Syndrome. I found this out recently and it has explained a heck of a lot as to why I am as I am.

Tuesday, July 31, 2007 MORNING COMMUTE: I have no idea how long I was in the ladies room crying. In fact I barely remember what I did at work today. My mind was so preoccupied with worry over my father and my nieces financial situations. I hope and pray that everything works out in the end. Who knows, they just might find a cure for heart failure one day.... WHAT IM WEARING: WALKING LOG

Monday, July 30, 2007 VISITING MY FATHER When I arrived at his house he was bedridden. He seemed very thin and weak yet was extremely happy to see me. This is a change from the norm. On the rare occasion that I visit him on a workday he would sometimes chatise me for not being at work. I immediatley noticed that there was a plate of breakfast food in front of him but he did not touch it. He told me that he did not have an appetite. This made me feel very sad. I hope that he eventually eats something. I would hate it if he were just wasting away. Last summer he stopped taking his medication for Heart Failure. He stopped taking it because he said it was too complicated to follow. The doctor gave him several different pills to take that had to be taken in a certain order. The fact that he has Heart Failure is ironic. For the vast majority of his life he has avoided salt like a vampire avoids garlic. He is also a nonsmoker and thin. The whole idea of him having Heart Failure baffles me. He is 77 years old. He is the only one of his eight siblings who has never had any heart trouble. He is also one of the last of his siblings to still be alive. The only other one who is still around is, Uncle Leon, who is a bypass surgery survivor. I spent almost the entire day with my father. Most of the time he slept. He would now and then get up and talk a little then fall back to sleep. I noticed that his feet are still swollen. When it was time for me to leave my little grandniece cried. I am always amazed when they do that. Im not that exciting a person and do not understand why small children seem to like me. All I can do now is pray that my father regains his appetite and voluntarily seeks medical help for his condition. We can not force him into going to the hospital because he is not senile. He is a very smart, cognizant man. He probably knows more about whats going on in the city and the world than your average news pundit. All I know now is that I love him and want him to stick around for several years more.... WALKING LOG

Sunday, July 29, 2007 A WEIRD DREAM AND AN UNEXPECTED VISITOR Later that evening my sister came banging on my door at 11pm at night. I was startled because of the hour and I had just turned in to bed. She told me she came over because she was worried about me. I had not spoken to anyone in the past few weeks. She told me that our father was OK. I did not quiet believe her. She does not normally come over my house at that hour of night frantically banging on my door. She practically lives on the other side of town. I knew that mostly she was scared and perhaps my father was not doing well. My father was diagnosed with heart failure last year. He stopped taking medicine for it about a year ago. He has been having difficulty breathing. His feet are swollen he is not in the best of health. So seeing her made me feel very worried about my fathers health. I do not know how much time he has. Heck, I do not know how much time I have. All I know is that I should make a point of seeing him for my sister’s sake and for my own. PRIDE AND PREJUDICE Also surprised the man who played Mr. Collins, there minister cousin was played by a man named David Bamber which made me wonder if he was related to Jamie Bamber, the guy who played Archie Kennedy on Horatio Hornblower and Apollo Adama on the new Battlestar Galactica. I thought this because Bamber is not exactly a common name an their both English. It turns out there not related and Jamie Bamber’s father is American and his mother is Irish. Since Jamie Bamber’s father is American and David Bamber’s father is obviously English, they are not related. Also shocked to find David Bamber is married to a woman in real life because during his comedic performance he seemed extremely effiminate. Also in the documentary that followed the movie when out of character he still seems effeminate. So I was surprised that he was in real life married to a woman and not a man. WALKING LOG

Saturday, July 28, 2007 MORNING COMMUTE: The thing I like about Saturdays is that the dress code is not in force. I can show up in shorts and no one will say anything about it. OK, I have never showed up for work in shorts on a Saturday until.... today. LOW BLOOD SUGAR After I picked up my items from Walmart I stopped by Wegman’s and picked up a couple of light grocery items. Nothing that had the potential to melt on the way over. Also I had to get something in me to eat. I felt as though I was in danger of fainting. THE KIDS ON THE TRAIN Anyway when the ticket checker showed up at the Lutherville stop they got off the train because some of them did not have tickets. The reason was that while one half of the group were tossing around a football the other half were at Gamestop. The group that was tossing around the football had to run to alert the other half that the train had come thus they did not all have enough time to buy a ticket. I assume they got off at Lutherville and bought tickets. I noticed that just as the ticket checker was about to board the train some of the kids had a panicked look on their faces. A couple of them had money out indicating that they had money to pay for their tickets. It was funny watching them make a casual run for it before the ticket check lady got on the train. I think it was nice that the kids who had tickets decided to stay behind with the kids who had yet to purchase theirs. WALKING LOG

Friday, July 27, 2007 MORNING COMMUTE: As I have written before the train sometimes shows up extra early and pulls off. So I can’t say for sure if it arrived at 6:10 it could have arrived at 6:07 for all I know. Anyway, since the bus arrived late I decided to walk down to the Camden Yards light rail stop. I saw a big Cal Ripken, Jr. banner on the side of the stadium. The banner is up to celebrate his induction into the baseball hall of fame. I wanted to photograph it but didn’t have my digital camera with me... CONCERN: MY MORNING BUS.. WHAT I’M WEARING: WALKING LOG

Thursday, July 26, 2007 MORNING COMMUTE: .....Anyway, back to my original narrative... I was afraid I was going to be late because ever since the summer MTA driver switchover our light rail driver sometimes pulls off earlier than the scheduled time. Luckily, he arrived at 6:10 and it appears I will be on time. I think that the fact that the MTA has moved the bus stop a little down the street has been a big factor in my ability to catch the train on time. They moved the stop due to construction. I hope that the stop will stay permanently there. It is now on the same block as the light rail so I do not have that far to run when the bus is late. Oh, before I forget today we had two cars on the train. Yesterday, there was just one car. Oddly, enough there was also one car on the train on the way home. Wednesday, July 25, 2007 MORNING COMMUTE: When the light rail train showed up at 6:10 it was short one car. Im not sure if this means we will have to switch trains at the North Avenue Station. Also while on the train I overheard one of the passengers voicing one of my concerns about about the Hunt Valley train. The concern is that sometimes the train is early, sometimes its on time. Its not as consistent as it was during the other driver’s tenure. WHAT IM WEARING: WALKING LOG

Tuesday, July 24, 2007 MORNING COMMUTE: Then I noticed for the first time that one of them was wearing an extremely short tight black dress. Then it occured to me that maybe they were in the process of being arrested for prostitution. There clothing did look just a little too tight and fancy looking for six in the morning. Just as I reached that conclusion a bus was about to drive. I guess she saw the cops and figured it would be a bad idea to stop there. I suppose seeing all those cop cars probaly made her nervous. I had to run and flag down the bus to get her to stop. She stopped. I was still almost late for work because the light rail train showed up at 6:08. I was in Duncan Donuts adding Equal sugar to my iced coffee when I saw the train show up. I cursed under my breath as I took up my sugars and ran for the train. Luckily, the driver did not drive off and let my board the train. The train pulled off at 6:09. So today, I am on time for work, despite the morning drama.. WHAT IM AM WEARING: WALKING LOG

Sunday, July 22, 2007 I did not go to Church today because the subject of todays service did not interest me much. It had something to do with poetry. From the summary on the website it sounds like church members are going to read from their favourite poems. Im not that much into poetry. So I spent the day watching movies from Netflix. Today, I watched Pride and Prejudice starring Colin Furth. I had never seen the movie before. Also I watched Kinsey and A Perfect Murder. WALKING LOG

Saturday, July 21, 2007 I didn’t really go anywhere today. I just spent the day reading spoilers from Harry Potter and The Deathly Hollows. So I guess you could say that today I am in semi-mourning mood over the fictional deaths of Hedwig the owl, Dobby the house elf, Fred Weasly, Lupin, Tonks, and my favourite character, Professor Snape. Despite this sadness, I did feel a bit wisfully happy that Harry named one of his sons Albus Severus Potter. The name was in honor of Albus Dumbledore the late head of Hogworts, and the late Severus Snape, the bravest man that Harry ever knew. I still can not believe the series is now over. What ever will I latch on to next? Doctor Who does not start up until sometime next spring whilst Heroes does not start up until sometime this fall. WALKING LOG

Friday, July 20, 2007 MORNING COMMUTE: OTAKON and POSSIBLY RACIST TEENS I thought at first when I saw them that they must be headed to MICA but they did not get off at the MICA stop so it must be OTAKON. To the best of my knowledge this is the earliest that they have held it. It usually seems to run in August. Also I believe this is the first time it has run the same weekend as Artscape. Someday, I would like to go to Otakon but I think I would feel uncomfortable surrounded by teenage and twentysomething geeks. Is there an anime con out there for thirtysomethings? Also later this evening the Harry Potter book comes out. Since its the last one I might head over to Barnes and Nobles and wait in line for it at midnight. No doubt I will be joined in line with some of the OTAKON folks. WHAT IM WEARING: WALKING LOG

Wednesday, July 18, 2007 MORNING COMMUTE: However, I made progress in that this morning I timed myself doing things such as showering (10 minutes), putting on makeup (15 minutes). I was surprised that I spent so much time in the morning putting on makeup. I feel that the reason for this is because about a week or so ago I added under eye concealer to my morning makeup routine. This addition bumped up my makeup application time from 5 minutes to 15 minutes. Normally, I would just put on foundation, powder, and lipstick. Now its concealer, foundation, powder, and lipstick. With this new information I will have to adjust my morning routine accordingly. I am glad that I got up an hour early to time myself this way I found out what I was doing that was suddenly making me late for work. Hopefully, tomorrow I will be on time for work now that I know what my problem area is. MICHAEL VICK The only dog I ever owned was Sebastian, the afghan hound. I was a kid when we had him. Thus I was not responsible for his care or upkeep. He was more my cousin, Renee’s dog than mine. Sebastain was a cowardly yet loveable dog. May Sebastian, the afghan hound rest in peace. Sunday, July 15, 2007 This morning I went to Church. I was late again by 25 minutes. I left out in more than enough time to be somewhat on time. I have now come to the conclusion that the northbound light rail train does not begin to run until 10:15. I was waiting for that train for a good 35 minutes. So now I know that I should take the bus down to Charles Street and walk up the street to Church instead of waiting for the light rail train. After Church went to the movies to see Transformers. I fell asleep during the big finale. It was not as good as Harry Potter was. WALKING LOG

Saturday, July 14, 2007 SATURDAY OVERTIME As per usual I am late. I do not know why but I tend to be late when I do Saturday overtime. I usually come in around 8 instead of 7. Ive been doing this ever since I started working at my job about 8 years ago. So far no one has said anything to me about it. After work I intend on going to the movies to see Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Transformers. I may see one today and the other tommorrow after Church. PANDORA MUSIC SERVICE The station I started first was based on the one song I have had on iPod the longest. In fact it was one of the first songs I immediately put on it after I bought it. I have never felt the need to erase it. I love that song! It makes me feel happy. Its Sugar, Sugar by The Archies. After I chose that song to start a station with the very next song that played was Carrie Anne by The Hollies. This had me immediately stunned. Guess what other song has been on my iPod for a very long time? CARRIE ANNE BY THE HOLLIES! So there you have it Silent Gail has a thing for sixties bubblegum music and is dumbfounded with joy over Pandora. So far Pandora has been a great success for me. I suppose I will make up other stations based on other songs and artists I like. Below for kicks I have included videos to two of the songs that have been on my iPod the longest, Sugar Sugar by The Archies and Carrie Anne by The Hollies. As an extra viewing bonus the video for The Archies shows Ron Dante not that cartoon characters singing. The video for Carrie Anne is a 60’s era black and white psychedelic promo clip. ITS FAR OUT MAN!

Tuesday, July 10, 2007 MORNING COMMUTE: BEAT THE HEAT Normally, my solution to beat the heat would have been to go to the movies. Since the incident I have to seriously watch my cash. I do intend on seeing the new Harry Potter movie when it comes out on Wednesday. There’s a 50/50 possibility I may have enough cash to see Transformers after work this evening. I am seeing this movie solely based on the glowing reviews that Amelia from the Mickey and Amelia Show gave it. Also the movie has gotten a lot of good reviews from real live critics. A bonus for me is that Josh Duhamel from the TV show, Las Vegas is in the movie. He’s the really cute guy on the show. I remember Duhamel from back in the day when he played Leo Du Pres on All My Children. On the show Leo and his mother were grifters. The duo reminded me of the characters that Angelica Huston and John Cusack played in the movie, The Grifters. So as you can see I go way back in my knowledge of the career of 2002 Daytime Outstanding Supporting Actor Emmy winner Josh Duhamel. Another reason Im seeing is because that Shia LaBouef kid is in the movie. I don’t know much about him other than lately he’s been getting a lot of work and will be in the next Indiana Jones movie. Also I’ve noticed on IMDB on the Indiana Jones page he gets top billing over Harrison Ford. So that could possibly mean that he will either be playing a young Indiana Jones or Indians Jones’ son or Grandson. I also understand that he is signed on for two more movies which means that he will taking over the Indiana Jones franchise. WHAT IM WEARING: LUNCHTIME WALKING: WALKING LOG

Monday, July 09, 2007 MORNING COMMUTE: It was a cab I never heard of before called, Liberty Cabs. The driver seemed very shaky like maybe he was on drugs or something. He asked if I wanted to pay upfront. I asked him how much a ride to Hunt Valley would be. He said twentysomething. I decided not to take him up on the pre pay option because quiet frankly he scared me. I was afraid that if I handed him cash up front he would rob me and take the money to buy drugs. Or worse rob me, kill me, and dump my body off somewhere between Baltimore and New York. The driver was either white or Latino it was difficult to say. One thing for sure he was definetly not from Baltimore. He sounded like he was from New York. I can’t say which borrough in New York but definetly he was from New York or maybe New Jersey. Anyway, what’s a New Yorker doing driving a cab in Baltimore? Isn’t cab driving a profession for foreigners? AFTER WORK PLANS . Right now there is not any movies that I am chomping at the bit to see. I’ve already seen Die Hard, 1408, Pirates of the Carribean, Knocked Up, and Oceans 13. I am boycotting Fantastic Four because of Ioan Gruffudd (Horatio Hornblower/Mr. Fantastic) dismantling a website his fans put up 9 years ago. He took down the site because his fiancee, Alice Evans, didn’t like his fans criticizing her fashion sense. Ioans actions in my opinion is tantamount to firing his fans. Because of this stupid action on Ioan’s part I can no longer support his work. WHAT I’M WEARING: WALKING LOG

Sunday, July 08, 2007 Went to Church this morning. I caught the #10 bus at 9:50. When I got to the light rail station there was already people there. So I figured things were looking up I would probably be 5-10 minutes late for Church. The train would likely show up at 10:00. The bus by the way made it to my stop at about 9:53. Not one but two trains arrived headed in the opposite direction that I needed to go in. My train did not arrive until 10:15. I made it to Church at about 10:27. When I made it in I was happy to see a member there I had not seen him in a while. Recently heard he had a tumor or something on his kidney and was due for surgery this month around the 20th. I hope he pulls through. WALKING LOG

Friday, July 06, 2007 MORNING COMMUTE: Make-Up Woes Last week I was at Towson Town Center and found a Mac Cosmetics store. One of the salesgirl there suggested a foundation colour that would be good for my skin color. I usually wear Revlon Colorstay in Cappachino. In Mac I wear NC55. The problem is I like to walk during my lunch break and when I walk I usually sweat because I like to walk fast. The Mac makeup ran off my face like melted ice cream in the hot sun. I was truly horrified. When I use the Colorstay stuff it stays on my skin through sweat and everything. Sadly, Mac does not make sweat proof makeup. Im sure if I found something in there professional theatre line it would most likely be waterproof. So today I have on a mixture of Colorstay and Mac. Im going to see if I can find a Colorstay shade that matches the Mac shade I have. The Mac colour is closest to my real skin colour. The Colourstay is a tone deeper but I had no way to try the makeup before I bought it. I only bought Cappacino because it was one colour down from Caramel. Caramel I noticed on the Revlon display was the colour it said Haley Berry had on. I do not think I am the same exact complexion as Haley Berry. I imagine if I saw her in real life I would find her to be an extremely light skinned woman. Im sort of at a weird inbetween shade not light skinned and not dark skinned just somewhere in the middle. I could not find any caramel Colorstay makeup last night to see how it compares to my Mac colour. I absolutely have to find a colour that comes close to Mac because the Colorstay makeup I used to wear did not match the rest of my skin. It was slightly darker and you could notice it whenever my neck was exposed. WHAT IM WEARING: WALKING LOG

Monday, July 02, 2007 Took the day off work to go to the bank and get everything straightened out with the electronic theft that occurred from my checking account. It now appears that I filled out every form available. Hopefully, the money will be returned to my account. Also PayPal has had the charges reversed. So everything is taken care of on there end. Its now all up to the bank. TORCHWOOD vs LIFE ON MARS
I watched about 5 episodes of the first season. I only stopped watching because it was getting late and I had to go to work in the morning. I plan on watching the rest of the episodes of the first season then move on to the second season. I can safely say that Life on Mars really grabbed me. Its about a cop, Sam Tyler (John Simm) from 2006 who gets in a car accident and is transported to 1973. The show reminds me of a 1970’s American cop show only with a sci-fi angle with the time travel thing. Will Sam ever make it back to his time or is he permanently stuck in the 70s? My favourite character on the show hands down is DCI Gene Hunt (Philip Glenister). DCI (Detective Chief Inspector) Hunt is the politically incorrect Captain of the police squad. Its wild looking at this show because they are doing things that would be frowned upon today. Everyone smokes in the squad room there are blatant abuses going on. If Gene Hunt were a cop today he would have been fired before his shift was even over. Im a left wing, feminist liberal and Im not ashamed to say, GENE HUNT ROCKS! WALKING LOG

Sunday, July 01, 2007 SUNDAY...CHURCH DAY I have really enjoyed the sermons she gives. They are filled with youthful enthusiasm. My favourite memory is during the morning childrens story she did a story with using puppets. I also liked during the Martin Luther King Day Service when we all stood in a circle inside the Church and sang, We Shall Overcome. Afterwards, we attached coloured cray paper messages on the fence outside the Church. Another thing I will remember about her tenure is the giant banner that is now up on our Church that reads, Civil Marriage is a Civil Right At the end of the todays service the choir sang the Gene Autry classic, Happy Trails. I felt very sad. It was the end of a brief era. Good Luck Allison where ever you are! DOCTOR WHO: The Last of the Time Lords I also loved the shocking revelation that Captain Jack is the face of Boe. Boe is a million year old being that lives in jar. I was also shocked that the Masters wife, Lucy Saxon, shot him. The last shot of the episode is very open ended. You see a closing shot of a red fingernailed woman’s hand picking up his ring and a male BWwwwhaaaaaHaaa laugh in the background. I interpret this as the Master pre arranging that his wife shot him in order to fake his death thus he can escape going to jail. He seemed more than happy that Francine (Martha’s mother) had a gun and wanted to shoot him. He was practically encouraging her to shoot him. Weird moment during the show was the Doctor being aged to the point that he resembled Dobby, the house elf from The Harry Potter books. Overall, it was a pretty good episode. I felt uncomfortable with the concept that Martha travelled the Earth to spread the word about the Doctor. It almost seemed like they were elevating him to being a God like being. It just smacked of pseudo religiosity which makes me feel uncomfortable. I watch the show to be entertained not to watch pseudo religion. WALKING LOG
